ASSIGNMENT 2 2025
DUE DATE 20 JUNE 2025
QUESTION 1
1.1 Argue the following statement by indicating whether you agree or disagree
with it and provide supporting reasons for each choice. The statement is: Science
and Technology are inseparable. In your answer, describe the two subjects
before agreeing or disagreeing, with reasons.
I agree with the statement that science and technology are inseparable.
Science is a subject that helps us understand the natural world. It uses methods like
asking questions, doing experiments, collecting data, and making conclusions. The
main goal of science is to gain new knowledge and explain how things in nature work.
For example, science can help us understand how plants grow, why the sky is blue, or
how the human body works.
According to the CAPS document (DoBE, 2011), science is a systematic method of
inquiry that aims to explain natural phenomena through repeatable experiments and
clear ideas.
Technology is about using knowledge, skills, and tools to solve real-life problems and
improve people's lives. It involves identifying needs, designing, making, and improving
, products or systems. For example, building a bridge, creating a cellphone, or designing
a water filter are all part of technology.
The CAPS document defines technology as the combination of knowledge, skills, and
resources to create solutions that meet needs and wants (DoBE, 2011).
Why Science and Technology Are Inseparable
They Work Together
Science gives us the knowledge we need to understand problems, and technology uses
that knowledge to solve them. For example, scientists studied viruses (science), and
then engineers used that information to create vaccines (technology).
Same Processes, Different Goals
Science uses investigation and experimentation. Technology uses design and creation.
But both follow a process, plan, test, improve, and communicate. This makes their work
similar and closely linked.
Science Inspires Technology
Many technologies are based on scientific discoveries. For example, understanding
electricity (science) led to the invention of lightbulbs and computers (technology).
