Tourism - ✔️The business of providing and marketing services and facilities for leisure
travelers. The concept of tourism is of direct concern to governments, carriers, and the
lodging, restaurant, and entertainment industries, and
of indirect concern to virtually every industry and business in the world. It is the activities
of people travelling and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more
than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes.

Tourist - ✔️A person who travels for a period of 24 hours or more in a place other than
that in which he or she usually resides, whose purpose could be classified as leisure
(whether for recreation, health, sport, holiday, study or religion), business, family,
mission or meeting

Domestic tourism - ✔️Tourism within one's own country

Outgoing tourist - ✔️A tourist who travels outside of his or her own country

International tourist - ✔️People who travel to other countries

Long haul travel - ✔️Air travel of eight or more hours' duration is considered long-haul
travel.

Short haul travel - ✔️Air travel of less than eight hours' duration is considered short-
haul travel.

Short break - ✔️Short holidays, e.g. a weekend in Ngwe Saung

Visiting friends and relatives (VFR) - ✔️Tourists who visit a place mainly because of
friends and/or family that live there

MICE - ✔️Umbrella term to refer to several aspects of business tourism: meetings,
incentives conventions and exhibitions.

Meetings - ✔️Events designed to bring people together for the purpose of exchanging
information, either from within the company or organisation or from a broader group of
people

Incentives - ✔️A trip offered as a prize, particularly to stimulate the productivity of
employees or sales agents, or the business of operating such travel programmes.

Conferences - ✔️Multi-day events organized to exchange information and that have at
least 100 people attending. It is considered an international event if more than 40% of
the delegates are from outside the host country.
