From the case study we can see Jack is internally troubled and in need of fatherly love,
which he feels his father is neglecting to give him. In contrast, Jack had a caring mother who
showed him more love than his father and always tried to pull him under her protective wing.
When parents are too controlling with their children, as seen with Jack and his father, it can
manifest into a tendency of adolescence rebelliousness. This phenomenon is evident in this case
since Jack is seen rebelling against his father’s life choices for him and choosing to take his own
path in life. Having had a caring mother must have been very important for Jack. As it was the
only love he received during his childhood. It is that unconditional love from his mother that
made him feel his father was cruel and emotionally disengaged. As such, Jacks unwillingness to
become vulnerable can be associated with his fear of being trapped in other people’s love.
He is clearly deprived of love and the appetite to find love is irresistible for Jack. He has
the urge to make new friends but at the same time he is afraid of what may follow. Having
rejected his father’s wishes must also have hurt his mother as well. Seeing how hurt his mother
was by his way of life, Jack must have been afraid of how his decisions hurt the people close to
him. This could cause Jack to avoid bringing people close to him in the future, as he would not
want anyone to get hurt as his mother did due to his actions. While this could be a good way of
maintaining lasting relationships for Jack, it is certainly killing him from the inside since he
needs someone to share his concerns with. Jack describes himself as a woman despoiler, which
can be linked to his mother’s unconditional love.
Jack may not be getting as much attention from other women as he got from his mother,
hence making him a despoiler. More likely than not, Jack is in search of true love and intimacy
