They may work in various fields such as biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science. 1.1.2 Indigenous Knowledge (IK) (2 marks) Indigenous Knowledge (IK) refers to the understandings, skills, and philosophies developed by societies with long histories of interaction with their natural surroundings. It is passed down orally and through cultural rituals and includes knowledge about agriculture, health care, weather patterns, and spiritual beliefs (Odora Hoppers, 2002).
