CNL 509: Counseling the Culturally Diverse

Identification of the Tests
There were two Implicit Association Tests (IATs) that I finished, and both of them
focused on gender and race. My implicit attitudes and prejudices related to these social
categories were going to be evaluated through the use of these tests. After considering the results
of the test, I understand that increasing my cultural competence in counseling is extremely
important. This is because it enables counselors to comprehend and respect the various client
backgrounds. This, in turn, results in treatment plans that are more effective, ethical, and
culturally responsive, which in turn improve client outcomes and build stronger therapeutic
relationships and relationships, according to Corey et al., (2023).
Summary of the Test
My results for (Race IAT) revealed a modest preference for one ethnic group over
another. I am concerned that my interactions with individuals from diverse racial backgrounds
may be influenced by implicit biases. Having lived closely with people from all racial origins,
which I thought would reduce such prejudices, this surprised me. The findings, therefore, draw
attention to the widespread character of society norms and cultural influences that can invade our
subconscious even when we deliberately try to be impartial.
, There was a moderate correlation between male and career-related terms, and a moderate
association between female and family-related phrases, according to the Gender and Career IAT.
My views on gender in the workplace may be impacted by this, which is reflective of
conventional gender norms. It is essential for me to be aware of this bias so that I can fight for
gender equality and dispel myths that keep women from achieving their full potential.
