Executive Summary
Organizational approaches and methodologies are fundamental to communication in the
marketplace. Many communication styles exist, as each strategy has different techniques and
characteristics. We will focus on direct and indirect communication, highlighting email and
social media methodologies.
Direct communication refers to communications where the main point is made at the
beginning of the communication and then, followed by supporting evidence or explanation. This
style of communication is concise and straightforward. This style typically describes what must
be executed and the why’s behind it. The approach is frequently used in routine messages,
emails, oral presentations, written requests, and informational reports.
Indirect communication is designed to deliver supporting evidence or explanation
preceded by the main point. The approach is appropriate when presenting the receiving audience
with unexpected or unfavorable news. This style provides the audience a buffer before the main
point is revealed. When incorporated with the Sandwich Method, the style can be seen as
compassionate, empathic, and sensitive to the receiver's feelings.
The predominant form of communication in the marketplace is emailing. This style is
commonly practiced by sending clear, concise messages that do not negate an immediate
response. This allows the receiver to read the communication when it is convenient and be more
intimate than other written forms of communication. A few disadvantages are that no emotional
overtone is conveyed, and it leaves an electronic trail.
Another popular form of business communication is engaging with social media. This
style allows users to connect with others and share content over the World Wide Web. This
methodology can be effective, affordable, and accessible to any user, which is limitless. It can
give an organization brand recognition and a method to expand its consumer base. Some
