Foundations of Evidence-Informed Practice
Introduction
One of the most crucial aspects that learners in the nursing field should be well informed
and educated on is how to conduct evidence-informed practice and research through the module
on the foundations of evidence-informed practice. Such is the case because nursing students will
, 2
be able to develop a vital understanding of their significance and usefulness in the healthcare
sector and the contributions of nurses through their nursing knowledge and decisions in
healthcare (Oosterbroek, Yonge & Myrick, 2021). As such, nursing students must be well
familiar with and fully understand research processes and methodological approaches necessary
for the successful completion and practice of nursing. Such knowledge involves the complete
understanding and identification of research evidence from credible and reliable sources,
research approaches, and research designs that help underpin the nursing knowledge and
decision-making process in the field of nursing. As a result, students can apply and develop
appraisal skills, among other crucial skills, by understanding and knowledge of the research
process and its different stages.
Therefore, this paper will use the Ellis (2019) research tool from the “Evidence-Based
Practice in Nursing, Fourth Edition” to discuss qualitative and quantitative research sources. One
of the crucial steps to gaining a complete understanding and knowledge of evidence-based
nursing practice is reading through various research papers carefully. The second step will be to
answer several questions after critically appraising each paper. The next step following the
completion of the writing process will be the summarization of the most significant points while
highlighting the limitations and strengths of the papers through an extraction worksheet
compilation. The first selected paper to be used in this paper will be that of Hayes et al., (2020)
and Thorsteinsson et al., (2019).
Paper One
Analysis of the Qualitative and Qualitative Research Papers
According to Hayes et al. (2020), alcohol-related dependence and its prevalence in the
United Kingdom are lower in the general public than in the military and armed forces. Therefore,
