1.1 A Grade 1 learner's parents report their child often gets sick.
Suggest, by providing specific examples, how they can use the basic
food groups to improve their child's health.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a healthy diet
should include a variety of foods from the following groups: fruits,
vegetables, whole grains, protein sources, and dairy products (WHO,
2020).
Fruits and Vegetables
Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants
that help boost the immune system. Examples of fruits that can be
included in a child's diet are oranges, bananas, and apples. Vegetables
like spinach, carrots, and broccoli are rich in essential nutrients like
iron, vitamin A, and vitamin C (Gibson & Hotchkiss, 2015).
Whole Grains
Whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, and whole-wheat bread provide
fiber, vitamins, and minerals that support healthy digestion and energy
production.
Protein Sources
, Protein sources like chicken, fish, and beans support growth and
development. They are rich in essential amino acids that help build and
repair tissues (Campbell & Campbell, 2016).
Dairy Products
Dairy products like milk and yogurt provide calcium, vitamin D, and
protein that support bone growth and development.
By including a variety of foods from these basic food groups, parents
can help improve their child's health and reduce the frequency of
illnesses.
