assemble mechanisms that complement performance. (i) Illustrate the
different focal points of a project manager’s role. Explain the effect of a

often work with limited formal authority. Instead, they must rely on influence, coordination, and
leadership across diverse teams and stakeholders. Let's break this down into two parts: (i) the
focal points of a project manager's role and (ii) the effect of their “umbrella” responsibility.
, (i) Focal Points of a Project Manager’s Role
1. Scope Management
o Ensuring the project delivers what was promised.
o Controlling scope creep and maintaining alignment with client/stakeholder
expectations.
2. Time Management
o Creating schedules and ensuring tasks are completed on time.
o Managing deadlines, dependencies, and sequencing of tasks.
3. Cost Management

The term “umbrella” responsibility reflects the comprehensive oversight and coordinating
function that a project manager performs across all aspects of a project. This overarching
responsibility has several key effects:
