1.1.
A population is an entire collection of elements or individuals, it is not always possible to use
the entire population, and therefore, we use only a subset of the population known as a
sample. It is easier and more convenient to use a sample. The sample calculation is used for
the measurement we are interested in as an estimate of the population value. The
assumption can be made that what is true for the sample is also true for the population.
1.2.
Inferential statistics are used to make inferences about a population. The purpose being to
generalise research findings from a sample to a population.
