Values to creative arts education (worth 20%): Story/Poem (illustrated)
Look at the literature on teacher values, successful teaching approaches for
creative arts teaching, and what constitutes a successful classroom climate
for arts education.
Look at the notes on the history of creative arts at schools in South Africa, on
what children can learn from creative arts, and on what schools can achieve if
the creative arts play an active role in education. Then consider where you
come from in terms of your culture, school experience and cultural learning.
Write a story or poem that expresses your credo. Illustrate it. Make sure that it
includes your creative arts teaching credo and how you have arrived at this
value system. Introduce yourself, tell us where you come from and explain
your values and your approach to the classroom and cultural education. It can
contain elements of humour, honesty, vulnerability, vanity and provocation.
Make it engaging, fun and thoughtful. It can be personal and reflect your own
