¥ A few simple steps can go a long way to prevent heart disease and high blood pressure. If a

person takes care of themselves by exercising consistently and watching their diet, they can

greatly improve their health. Some foods to avoid or limit your intake of include foods with

cholesterol and fat, as they can lead to partial blockage of vessels.

¥ Another way to improve your cardiovascular health is to avoid stressors, or being stressed.

Stress can lead to an increase in blood pressure, which can lead to long term problems. By

avoiding stressors and learning methods to control your anxiety, you can limit your likelihood

of developing heart disease.

¥ There are also genetic factors that influence your chances at developing heart disease or

hypertension, but nothing can be done about those factors. People who have a family history of

heart disease should take special care to follow the steps above.

¥ In order to improve cardiovascular health, one must exercise regularly which allows the heart

to pump blood more efficiently. Additionally, changes to one's diet can improve their

cardiovascular health, such as consuming less salt and less alcohol. Salt causes us to take in

more water which increases our blood volume and then in turn increases our blood pressure.

Alcohol increases ADH production in the long-term and ADH helps our kidneys hold on to

water, so an increase in ADH would increase the amount of water our kidneys retain which

increases blood volume and thus blood pressure. Maintaining an overall healthier lifestyle

improves cardiovascular health.

¥ To reduce the prevalence of heart disease and high blood pressure in America, individuals

could increase their physical activity levels, monitor their diet to reduce sodium intake, and

quit smoking. Plaque can build up in arteries from consuming high fat and cholesterol- based

, foods in an unbalanced diet, which can lead to atherosclerosis. If enough plaque builds up in

the arteries, the artery can become blocked, leading to obstructed blood flow in the heart which

can result in a heart attack. For example, the DASH diet that consists of low sodium, low

saturated fat, and more fruits and vegetables has been proven to help lower blood pressure and

LDL cholesterol, which is a cholesterol that can be harmful to the body in large amounts

causing plaque build up in arteries. As for physical activity, it increases blood flow and is heart

healthy. Exercise helps to make your heart pump more efficiently in the long run since it will

contract less to pump the same amount of blood.

¥ Prevention for this serious disease would include at least 150 minutes per week of exercise or

at least 75 minutes of more intense physical activity and leading a balanced healthy diet,

starting at a young age. Once an individual is at serious risk for heart disease, the Dash Diet

and an increase in this exercise minimum will help the individual reduce their blood pressure.

The Dash diet encourages nutrient rich foods and consumption of less sodium as an approach

to hypertension. This style of diet can be used as prevention or to make a significant reduction

in sodium levels.

¥ Heart disease can often caused by reduced blood flow or blockage of the coronary arteries.

These blockages are due to build up in cholesterol. To reverse these build ups and other

symptoms, individuals can increase cardio exercise level, decrease salt in-take, a change of diet

including heather foods, and an overall change in lifestyle. It is recommended that individuals

should also reduce the frequency of smoking, and/or vaping.

¥ High blood pressure is typically indicative of poor cardiovascular health. Ways to improve this

is by increasing physical activity, weight loss, and reducing salt intake. You can go on a diet to
