Complete the sections below to describe the oral
hygiene instruction you would give to the
following two patients in relation to the specific
headings given for each.
Oral Hygiene Instruction
Cleaning the Clean after every meal over a bowl of water to protect it from damage
Appliance Clean using gentle soap
Use a soft tooth brush
Brush both inner and outer surfaces of the denture
Wearing the Remove at night to avoid swallowing, place it in the box given by dentist and
Appliance make sure its been cleaned and dried as advised
If sore, remove denture and contact the dentist
they can be worn while eating, Chew evenly and slowly and be mindful of
sticky/hard foods.
Leaving the denture in too long could result in accumulation of bacteria
which can cause an infection/ Denture stomatitis.
Speech may be slightly different however this will settle over time and you
can practice reading aloud to practice getting used to it.
