strengths (tips on how to answer below!!!!)
Reliability
A strength of this study is it is high in reliability this means that the
consistency of a measure remains the same after multiple attempts, as this
study is set in a laboratory setting which usually follows a highly
standardized procedure, for example all participants were taken to a dull
quiet room , each participant listens to a tape recording of party- goers and
places for 2.5 minutes, all participants were told to write done names of
party-goers, all participants were given A4 pieces of paper for secondary
task and finally all received a surprise memory test. In conclusion a
standardized procedure allows all participants to have the same experience
and for another reader to replicate the study and draw similar findings.
Application to real life
A strength of this study is that it can be applied to real life. This means
findings can be used and implemented in everyday life situations to help
people. For example, this may be useful for students when they are revising
for examinations, if a student has a podcast to listen to or are reading notes,
it could be useful for them to doodle at the same time, it can also be used for
students with low concentration spans to doodle to encourage them to be
more attentive. In conclusion the study can help people improve their
cognitive abilities such as attention and memory
Weaknesses
Design
A weakness of this study is that it uses an independent measures design
which means when participants only experience 1 level of the Iv. For
example, different participants were used in the non-doodling and doodling
group therefore participant variables may have affected some of the results
because people in the doodling group may already happen to doodle when
they concentrate on tasks. Also, participants in the doodling group may have
a better memory compared to those in the non-doodling group. In conclusion
participant variables may affect the dv reducing validity of the findings
