4 levels of law enforcement - ANS-federal (U.S. government agencies), state, county, and local
or municipal.
\Agency liability as a result of sexual harassment - ANS-harassment unaddressed, can results in
fines or administrative penalties. Can result in lawsuits and judgments against the agency and
its management.
\appropriate responses to sexual harassment - ANS-inform offender the behavior is unwelcome,
discuss it with the parties involved, review the situation, make it clear you want the behavior to
stop, and also prepare for resistance and possible repercussions. Additionally review and follow
the agency's discrimination policies and procedures for filing a complaint.
\Bailiff - ANS-a court deputy generally sworn is a sworn law enforcement officer who is
responsible for security in the courtroom
\Bribery - ANS-to give, offer, or promise a benefit or gift to a person in order to influence that
person to a certain course of action.
\Certified - ANS-sworn, as in a certified police officer
\Chain of command - ANS-the order of authority within an organization
\clerk of the court - ANS-elected by county and responsible for maintaining files and official
records and issuing subpoenas
\community control - ANS-(house arrest) a form of closely monitored community supervision and
is more restrictive than probation or parole.
\components of the corrections system - ANS-Prison (federal and state), county jails, county and
municipal holding facilities, treatment and evaluation centers, probation, parole, community
control, juvenile assessment/detention center.
\Conflict of interest - ANS-the actions and situations that could conflict with official
responsibilities
\Consequences of sexual harassment - ANS-mandatory retraining, leave without pay, loss of
rank, and even discharge.
\Corrections - ANS-the part of the system responsible for enforcing punishment by the court
system.
\county and municipal holding facilities - ANS-these facilities provide a place for detainees while
booking procedures are completed or until they can be transported to a county jail.
\county jails - ANS-used for booking and temporary detention of defendants awaiting trial or
disposition on federal or state charges and of convicted offenders sentenced to short term
detention (a year or less).
