- Adolescent: According to WHO, it is an individual aged between 10-19 years for both sexes,
whether or not they are married.
- Adolescent: According to DOH, is the rapid and formative phase of human development, with
distinctive changes to physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and sexual development taking
place.

- The Philippine Pediatric Society and the Department of Health separated adolescence:
o Early adolescence:
10-13 years.

- Youth: According to Republic Act 8044, it is a critical period in one's growth and development
from the onset of adolescence towards the peak of mature, self-reliant and responsible
adulthood. Compromises the population from the age of 15-30
o In-school youth
Attending formal school system or non-school based educational program
o Out-of-school youth
Not enrolled in any school
Not employed and not a tertiary level graduate
o Working youth
Employed, self-employed, underemployed, or belongs to a specific employable
job-seeking youth groups both in formal and informal sectors.
o youth with special needs
highly diversified with different concerns and aspirations
ten major clientele categories:
indigenous youth
differently-abled youth
youth in situations of armed conflict
young victims of disasters and calamities
youth offenders
juvenile delinquents
drug dependent youth
street youth
abused and exploited youth
neglected youth
are usually discriminated against
Adolescent and Youth Health Development Program
- With the oversight of the Department of Health, The Adolescent and Youth Health Program was
established in 2001.
- Targeting those aged 10-24, the program provided comprehensive health care and services on
national, regional, provincial, and municipal levels.
- The program shall focus on the following health concerns, regardless of their sex, race, and
socioeconomic background:
o Growth and development concerning nutrition, physical, and mental and emotional
status
o Reproductive
