Module 13 Study Questions
Q1 still needs revisions
1. What is a chromosome made of? Use the following terms to label the image: DNA,
nucleotides, gene, centromere, histone protein. (Flashback to module 6 for a reminder about
nucleotides)
-1. Gene 2. DNA 3. Nucleotide 4.Histone Protein 5.Telomere 6. Centromere
2. What is the job of the centromere?
- For fibers to attach during cell division and be the connection of the sister chromatids.
3. Why is it helpful that DNA wraps around histones?
- It allows the DNA to be compact allowing more space in the cell.
4. Label the image below to indicate homologous chromosomes and sister chromatids. What is
the difference between them?
Homologous Chromosomes Sister Chromatids
, Homologous Chromosomes are used in reproduction and they contain the same or different alleles in
the same gene. They appear in Metaphase 1 of meiosis.
