Oral language is a set of words and word combinations that are employed to
communicate with others through speaking and listening. Oral language is employed
to convey and understand knowledge, ideas, and emotions. Oral language enables
us to comprehend, communicate, and connect words. It is the bedrock upon which
all emergent literacy and subsequent reading are constructed. In order to effectively
communicate ideas, needs, and objectives, as well as to establish personal
relationships with family and friends, it is essential to possess strong oral language
skills.
Phonological awareness is the capacity to manipulate spoken language components
at the word, syllable, onset-rime, and phoneme levels, as well as the comprehension
that spoken language can be deconstructed into constituent elements. The capacity
to identify, contemplate, and interact with the individual sounds in spoken syllables is
known as phonemic awareness. Phonemic awareness is a developmental stage of
phonological awareness.The ultimate objective of phonological awareness
instruction is to assist students in the development of an understanding that words
are composed of individual sounds, or phonemes, and to cultivate the capacity to
manipulate individual sounds within words. Phonological awareness is directly
correlated with reading ability and assists students in maximizing the benefits of
phonics instruction.
