Justice as Equity and equal education opportunities
Equality – the equal treatment of everyone, irrespective of their race,
class, gender etc.
Equity – equal opportunities for everyone
Justice as equity – creating equal opportunities through redressing
inequalities
Equal education opportunities – everyone has fair and equal access to a
good quality education, regardless of social background, race, gender or
religion

Q: Why are education opportunities in South Africa unequal?
A: there is undeserved privilege and disadvantage
Q: What is the consequence of these unequal opportunities within education?
A: there are differential outcomes for the students
Q: what needs to be done to redress these unequal opportunities?
A: redress and not reduce. Justifiable unequal treatment needs to be
implemented in order to level the playing field
Undeserved advantage/ disadvantage
Because of gender, class and ethnicity
Leads to different outcomes amongst different people
For example, unequal education opportunities leads to different education
outcomes
Must be redressed through justifiable unequal treatment
