Nightmare
I was dashing down the road without looking back. My lungs scorched like two
lumps of burning charcoal, but all of this felt like nothing compared to the
devil behind. It was Him again! Countless burning scars were all over his face,
and rusty iron spikes could be seen over his shoulders, elbows and hands.
My attempt of escape was in vain. The devil was everywhere. He could catch
me as long as he wanted but he seemed to prefer watching me scampering
around and smelling the fear of mine.
Eventually, I was lifted off ground by his huge hand and pressed against the
wall. I made a last-ditch struggle but I couldn’t move at all. I leaned
desperately on the wall, watching the Devil’s fingers slowly ripping my
clothes, my skin and finally my chest. The devil held my heart, still pumping,
between us and I could still feel the overwhelming pain. He stared into my
eyes, bellowing: “I can sense your fear and let it grow, until....it satisfies me!”
I woke up with my pyjamas so soaked as if I had just climbed out of sea. I
breathed heavily with my chest rising and falling. I had suffered from the
same nightmare for two months. Sleeping had become a torture to me. “I
can't stand it anymore”, I said to himself. I opened the door to the balcony
and stared down at the ground which seemed vague to me, “maybe a simple
leap would be the solution.”
Suddenly, a cheerful meow from my back drew my attention. There in my
room was a tiny white creature with a long trunk. Its eyes reminded me of the
eyes of rhinoceros, blinking so innocently. It was a tapir! My heart was
touched by a gentle breeze and I felt a long-lost sense of warmth. It looked at
me with its eyes glittering, as if saying: “be brave, everything will be fine”.
Somehow, looking at it, I gained the courage of carrying on.
I stepped back into the house and scooped the small creature up. She was
soft and fluffy with delicate fragrance. I was instantly attached to her. I took
her everywhere I went, parks, supermarkets and restaurants. She was clever
enough to follow me and never got lost. When I took a rest, she would roll
over and over on the ground. Her presence breathed vitality and hope into my
painful life plagued by the horrific nightmare.
Soon it was night again. I put the tapir next to my head while the irresistible
tiredness slowly surrounded me, abducting me into the purgatory. I opened
