Take resident to bathroom before/after meals and before bed
Put lids on trash cans or other containers the resident might urinate or defecate in

Guidelines for FEEDING patients with AD -Answer-Encourage healthy foods
Have meals at regular times
Remind resident it's meal time

Agitated -Answer-Restless excitement

If a resident is agitated or is "sundowning:" a CNA should -Answer-remove triggers
redirect resident's focus to a soothing activity (folding towels)
give snacks/encourage rest if bedtime & limit activities
place an arm around the resident
play soft music
calming activities before bed
set a bedtime routine and keep it
no caffeine
maintain daily exercise routine

Catastrophic Reaction -Answer-Over reacting to something usually triggered by
fatigue, change of routine/environment/caregiver, overstimulation, difficult choices or
tasks, physical pain, hunger, or need to go to the bathroom

Violent behaviour -Answer-is usually triggered in AD patients when they are
frustrated, when change overwhelms them, or overstimulated

A CNA should block blows but never hit back

Avoid leaving resident alone
