• cancers originating in the lymphatic structures and in the
marrow resulting in uncontrolled proliferation of lymphocy
Two Types:
1. Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL)- There is a proliferation o
abnormal giant, multinucleated cells, called Reed-
Sternberg cells or Hodgkin cells, in the lymph nodes.
• Bimodal age:
• 1st peak is at15 to 30 years of age
• 2nd peak is older than 55 y.o.
• Affects men twice as women.
• Often starts in the upper body (neck, chest, armpits)
, ETIOLOGY (HODGKIN
LYMPHOMA)
• Cause is unknown
• Infection with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)
• Genetic predisposition
• Exposure to occupational toxins (pesticides,
chemotherapy, & radiation)
• Increased in those with HIV
• Autoimmune rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren’s
syndrome (attacks exocrine glands)
