Proper CPR Procedure: NREMT Skills

1. Approach scene, “BSI, Scene Safety, PPE.”
2. AVPU: Alert? Verbal Stimuli? Painful Stimuli? (Trap Pinch) Unresponsive?
a. “Hello my name is _______, I am here to help you.” No Response.
Trap Pinch – Still Unresponsive.
3. ABC’s (Airway, Breathing, Circulation)
a. Head Tilt, Chin lift, look for chest rise and fall while feeling for pulse
on carotid artery. Unresponsive.
4. Verbal Direction to partner: “Call for ALS and bring me AED!!!”
5. Begin compressions at 30/2 ratio, counting compressions out loud.
6. Partner arrives with AED:
a. Verbal Command: “Take over compressions at 30/2 ratio.”
7. AED Procedure:
a. Turn on AED
b. Apply AED pads to patient in correct areas
c. Plug in the cord, adhere to direction from AED machine.
8. AED says “Assessing patient”
a. Immediately instruct partner to stop compressions and clear.
9. AED says “Shock advised, beginning charge.”
a. Instruct partner to continue compressions at 30/2 ratio.
10.AED says “Shock ready”
a. Instruct partner to stop compressions, and clear away.
11.Administer shock with AED
a. Command partner to resume chest compressions at 30/2 ratio.
