Level C PPE - ANSWERS-- Chemical Resistant Clothing
- Should be selected when the type of airborne substance is known, concentration
measured, & criteria for using Air-Purifying Respirator (APR)
- Provides the same level of skin protection as Level B, but lower respiratory
protection
- Full Face APR or PAPR
Level D PPE - ANSWERS-Work uniform
Provides no respiratory protection and minimal skin protection
SCBA (Self-contained breathing apparatus) - ANSWERS-Advantages:
- The highest level of protection
- Readily available
- No distance restriction
Disadvantages:
- Limited air supply
- Limited duration of work
- Added weight to the responder
Closed Circuit SCBA - ANSWERS-"Rebreather"
,- Exhaled air is recycled
- Usually lighter
Advantages:
- The highest level of protection
- No distance restriction
- Usually lighter than regular SCBA
- May have a longer operational duration
Limitations:
- Limited air supply
-Limited work duration
Risk of injury in flammable atmospheres or system failure because of the
presence of an oxidizer
Positive-Pressure Supplied Air Respirators (SAR) - ANSWERS-- Effective when
extended work times are required for entry, decon, or clean-up operations
Advantages:
- Longer working time
- Protects against contaminants and oxygen deficiency
- Not as heavy as SCBA
,Limitations:
- 300 ft hose travel distance
- Not IDLH approved
- Hose twists/tangle
- Must have an emergency egress system (5-10 minutes reserve air)
