Newborns and eyes - ANSWER 1. most are far-sighted; this
gradually improves at age 7-8
2. peripheral vision is intact for the newborn
3. @ 3/4 m.o, binocularity is intact
toddlers and eyes - ANSWER -test for strabismus using the cover
test.
-early recognition is essential for preventing permanent loss of
vision in the lazy eye
-ptosis is NOT lazy eye (it is an over-hanging eyelid)
preschool/school-aged children and eyes - ANSWER color vision
needs to be assessed
**inherited recessive x-linked trait
*rare in females
, *use plates, typically only need to test once
***females need 2 X chromosomes for color blindness to be
present, males only need one.
presbyopia - ANSWER farsightedness caused by loss of elasticity
