Stalin

After Lenin’s death, Stalin rose as the leader in the Communist Party. This did
not happen immediately though. There was beef between Stalin and Trotsky
over this power but Stalin eventually won in the late 1920s.

Under Stalin, the USSR had ANOTHER period of revolutionary turmoil. He
was set that it would become a modern, industrialised nation. To achieve this he
had to force the Soviet people into submission.

Peasants lost land and were forced to work on collective farms. AMBITIOUS
five year plans were devised to build up heavy industry. Everything was
sacrificed at the aim of higher production.

Literally all the opposition was destroyed by the “secret police”. By the
mid-1930s, Stalin was super strong and was able to turn on his rivals within the
communist party. Show trials were held at which many of the ‘Old Bolsheviks”
admitted imaginary crimes.

Them and many others died in Stalin's Great Purges. Within little than a decade,
his dictatorship had succeeded in making the USSR one of the world’s greatest
industrial powers.

Why did Stalin, and not Trostky, emerge as Lenin’s successor?

Lenin was only 50 when he died. Most obvi candidate was Trotsky who was the
most popular personality of the communist leaders after Lenin died. He
could’ve claimed to have organised the Bolshevik Takeover in 1917 and to have
saved the Bolshevik takeover in 1917 and to have saved the Bolshevik
government by organising the Red Army during the Civil War.

He also had the reputation outside the Soviet Union, having been Commissar for
Foreign Affairs. But the others didn’t like him because he was very much like
Sam. He was also in a country that was deeply rooted in anti-semitism.
Anti-tsarist and revolutionary groups were Jewish.

Before Lenin went bye-bye, he was sus of Stalin’s ambitions, and it was lowkey
intense between them. In his will he warned that Stalin should not be given
power. But the others were like “okay girl we don’t fucking care he acts like
sam, we also vibing with stalin’s socialism route”.

After Lenin’s death, Stalin with Zinoviev and Kamenev (two other communist
leaders), emerged and took power. Trotsky was accused of trying to split the
Communist Party and take power for himself. Trotsky was eventually stripped
of all his power. No sooner had Stalin been the sneaky little bitch he is he turned
on Zinoviev and Kamenev who became worried about Stalin's ambition and
degree of control over the party. They were sacked from their posts and even
though Stalin allowed them back in 1928 their power was broken.

Why did Stalin launch the ‘purges’?

Since they had come to power the USSR had periodically ‘purged’ its
membership getting rid of those disloyal hoes. In 1934 Stalin thought they were

gonna replace him with Kirov (some young popular boss of Leningrad). He
secretly order the NKVD (not so secret-secret police) to murder him .
Stalin used this as an excuse to turn on his enemies blaming Zinoviev and
Kamenev on the murder. They were put in long gaol terms (jail type sitch).
He wasn’t done, he accused Zinoviev, Kamenev and Trotsky (exiled) of being
spies for foreign countries. In 1936 the NKVD found evidence of contact with
Trotsky, they were put on public trial for TERRORISM. Z, K were shot after.
