It took almost a year for word to get out that golf had been found at Sutter's Mill, and the ensuing
movement West became known as the Gold Rush. 1-24 On this day in 1848, this find at
Sutter's Mill in CA resulted in one of the largest migrations of human beings to ever take place.
The 13th Amendment abolishing slavery was eventually ratified in the Northern states, but the
South would prove harder to convince. 1-31 On this day in 1862, this amendment to the
constitution was approved by the U.S. Senate.
Black History Month celebrates achievements of African Americans as well as their central role
in U.S. history. 2-1 This now annual and monthlong celebration was created to recognize
and honor the stories, perspectives, and contributions, of African Americans throughout history.
The Mexican-American War was fought over a number of issues, including just exactly where
