AP Art History Unit 2 Mesopotamia and Egypt Exam with Questions and Answers White Temple and Ziggurat ANSWER -It is a temple atop a mud-brick platform. -The artistic process was making the 40 ft ziggurat with broad and sloping sides, and having recessed bands from the top to bottom. The top of it was covered with bitumen, and then overlaid with brick. The temple was then whitewashed inside and out. -The imagery was simply a stunningly bright ziggurat and temple. -It was made by the Sumerians, through free and forced labor. -It was made in the late 4th millennium B.C.E -It comes from Uruk (modern Warka in Iraq), a very important city at that time. -It was made to be the heart of the city. It also is meant to show that the deities worshiped there, were respected. -One question that I have, is what was the pool on the side for? Standing Male Worshipper ANSWER -It is a 12 inch tall sculpture of a man. -The artistic process is carving the sculptures out of gypsum/limestone, making the eyes inlaid, and painting the hair. -The imagery is men and women who are supposed to appear attentive. -It was made by the Sumerians. It was also commissioned by the elite.
