FAMILY FORMS - answer 1. voluntarily childless family- decide they want
no children.

3. Nuclear- consists of father, mother and children. This type has been
declining as the family form has become more diverse.

married) and one or more children.

,Why the high divorce rate? - answer Sometimes expectations are charged
with so much romantic fantasythat fulfillment is impossible. This is one
reason for the high divorce rate; couples often seperate because personal
needs and expectations are not met.


Median Age of Marriage - answer The median age of marrige has
increased since the 1980's. The reasons for couples delaying marriage
include: econmic prosperity, longer periods of school enrollment, better
attitudes toward remaining single, a longer life expectancy, smaller
families, more career options for women, and increased acceptance of
non-martial cohabitation oppurtunities.


Why the delay in marriage? - answer The delay in marriage is also
associated with the decline in negative attitudes toward remaining single,
a longer life expectancy, more careers options for women, increased
oppurtunities for nonmarital sexual intercourse, and increased acceptance
of nonmartial cohabitation.


Working Mothers - answer The major economic reason for mothers
entering the workforce is finacial need. Other non-economic reasons
include better employment oppurtunities and personal fulfillment,


Fertility Rate - answer The number of children a woman is expected to
have in her lifetime.


Wife's Employment & Household Responsibilities - answer Most working
wives attempt to carry the usual responsibilities of housework and family
care along with working fulltime. Research indicates that the wife's
employment has only minimal effect on the husband's household
involvement.


Single- parent families - answer INcreasin numbers of seperation, divorce
and birth to single women have contributed to a great increase in one-

experience into phases over the life span and descirbes changes in family
structure and roles during each phase; Symbolic Interaction Theory-
descirbes the family as a unity on interacting personalities, which interact
through symbolic; words, gestures, rules, and roles. Systems thoery-
empasizes the interdependence of family members, what one effect
others; Conflict theory- states that conflict in families is the normal state
of affairs and that family dynamics can be understood by identifying the
sources of conlict and the sources of power. It focuses on conflict
resolution.
Equity thoery- a subcategory of exchange theory holding that people seek
a fair and balanced exchange in which the partners can mutally give and
recieve what is needed.


Gender Identity - answer Our personal, internal sense of maleness or
femaleness, which is expressed in personality and behavior.
