Also includes transportation of a pt. regardless of a presumption of death of the pt., or transportation for purpose of anatomical gift Code 3 Operation - ANSWERS-The use of red lights and siren. Declared by legislative policy that red lights and siren are restricted to emergency vehicles engaged in police, fire, and lifesaving services (Section 30) Convictions - ANSWERS-convictions that are specified as affecting employment or certification for an ambulance driver remain convictions regardless of actions by court to dismiss or set aside a guilty verdict. Penal Code does not affect any revocation or suspension of privileges of the convicted person to drive a motor vehicle. Dismissal order does not relieve a person of obligation to disclose a conviction. Ambulance Identification - ANSWERS-name of company mist be on both sides ad the rear of the ambulance. -letters should be in in sharp contrast to the background and must be legible from 50 feet. Service Availability - ANSWERS-Owners other than public agencies cannot permit ambulances to respond to calls unless a license has been obtained by the CHP. At least one is available 24 hours daily to provide emergency transport. An ambulance services that provides service only for special events or industrial employees and does not respond to public calls is exempt from 24 hour availability as a prereq. Warning Equipment Standards - ANSWERS-Requires that warning lamps and sirens that comply with standards be on ambulances Fire Extinguisher Servicing - ANSWERS-Fire extinguishers on ambs. must be inspected and serviced yearly or immediately after use, whichever occurs first. Fire extinguisher must be a dry chemical or CO2 type with a minimum 4-B:C rating Ambulance Inspections - ANSWERS-Service vehicles must be inspected initially and annually by CHP. Random inspections can be made to verify maintenance in compliance. Drivers should certify that their ambulance has been inspected. Escorts for Transported Patients - ANSWERS-The prohibition against unqualified personnel serving as the driver or attendant applies to required personnel and is not intended to preclude the transportation of the patient's family members or other persons directly concerned with the well-being of the patient. Liability - ANSWERS-Ambulance personnel may be civilly liable for acts or omissions performed in negligence or lack of faith. Gross negligence is usually determined by a judge or jury. Regulatory Exemptions - ANSWERS-The CHP cannot grant exemptions to statutory requirements. Exemption can be granted upon good cause by requesting services. Drivers should be familiar with terms of any exemptions under their ambulance services. Exemptions shall be valid for a period of no more than 2 years, unless rescinded earlier for cause. Exemptions are not transferable and expire upon change of ownership. Exemptions may be terminated for cause, or by request of county board, or if need for exemption no longer exists. Grounds for Suspension or Revocation of License - ANSWERS-An ambulance service license can be suspended revoked or have disciplinary action taken if: - A section of the CVC is violated in relation to their activities - Conviction of a felony - Conviction of any misdemeanor of moral turpitude - Violation of any regulation promulgated by the Commissioner - Commits any act involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit where another is injured, or any act involving moral turpitude. - Misrepresentation a material fact in obtaining a license
