INSTALLER I EXAM LATEST UPDATED

Site Characteristics: existing structures, slopes, wells, and streams influence
system design.

Soil Characteristics - ANSWER 40 million bacterial cells in a single gram of
soil Healthy soil is alive and breathing, teeming with microbes that digest
pathogens.

vertical separation - the depth of dirt on the land

Bedrock, groundwater, impermeable layer, and the depth of water will no longer
seep into the soil.

The conventional gravity system comprises of three parts: a septic tank, a drain
field, and soil benighted. The drain field must have at least 3 feet of native,
undisturbed drain soil, and the filter should be cleaned every 6-12 months.

Sludge layer – the top layer in a septic system.

Scum layer – the bottom layer of the septic system.

effluent - A clear liquid between the sludge and scum la
yers.

Distribution box - Dbox - ANSWER: Equal distribution of wastewater. Is

,connected to the lateral drain lines, effluent runs out via small holes into the
surrounding soil, where aerobic or oxygen-loving bacteria and other microbes
treat the wastewater by removing pathogens.

Pressurized System - ANSWER wastewater is pushed to a specific region of the
property. The vertical separation is 2-3 feet.

Alarm float - ANSWER Third and highest float; if the pump fails and there is
too much wastewater, the wastewater rises and the alarm sounds. Some pumps
employ a transducer instead of an alarm pump.

redundancy float - ANSWER helps to cut off the pump if the water level goes
too low, or there is enough wastewater to cover the pump.

on/off float - ANSWER turns the pump on as the water level rises - the effluent
is dossed every several hours to spread out the lateral drains into the drain field,
water level stops the pump - the drain field must dry out between doses.

Mound system - ANSWER specially designed sand 1' to 2'

Sand Filtered System - ANSWER box of designed sand and gravel is then
pushed out onto a drain field.

The traditional onsite wastewater treatment system - ANSWER consists of a
two-chamber treatment tank and a drain-field or leach field. The treatment tank
separates materials that will float or sink. Typically, the septic tank volume for a
traditional tank and onsite effluent disposal system (such as a drain field) is
considered to be at least 1000 gallons, or 1.5 times the typical daily wastewater
flow.

, Preliminary Site Check: Check to see if your lot appears to be large enough for
a typical septic tank and drainage system.

Lot size - The lot must be at least 3/4 acre.

Setbacks - ANSWER the layout of the typical system on your plat map and see
if your system satisfies the required setbacks.

ANSWER Phone, Gas, Cable, Electricity, and Water: Call before digging. If
you did and damage utilities without telling the utility company, you may be
liable for the expense of repairs.

ANSWER: The sewer pipe must be built in a realistic alignment and uniform
slope, with watertight connections. The sewage line must be a minimum of 3
inches and no smaller than the size of the building drain to which it is attached.

General Requirement - ANSWER To document the soil and site conditions, a
full site evaluation shall be completed by either a site elevator or the
professional engineer supplying the site evaluation criteria in the subsection and
must be presented with the planning papers.

Site evaluation criteria - ANSWER All components of the site evaluation must
be completed by either a site evaluator or a professional engineer, according to
this section. The information acquired during the site study will be used to
decide the type and size of the OSSF.
