1. Psychosocial Support and Emotional-Behavioural Interventions

a) Concept of Psychosocial Support in an Educational Context (5 marks)

Psychosocial support refers to the strategies, services, and interventions designed
to support the psychological and social well-being of students. In an educational
context, it aims to help students cope with stressors, develop resilience, and
enhance their emotional, cognitive, and social development. This form of support
includes addressing the emotional and social needs of students to promote a safe
and nurturing learning environment. It fosters students’ sense of belonging, self-
worth, and positive relationships, enabling them to achieve academic success and
overall well-being.

b) Three Evidence-Based Strategies for Providing Emotional Support in a
Classroom Setting (10 marks)

, 1. Fostering Positive Teacher-Student Relationships: Building trusting and
respectful relationships with students is fundamental for providing emotional
support. Research shows that students who feel connected to their teachers
are more likely to engage in learning and exhibit positive behaviour.
Teachers can achieve this by showing empathy, actively listening to students,
and providing encouragement.

2. Implementing Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Programs: SEL
programs teach students emotional regulation, empathy, conflict resolution,
and interpersonal skills. These programs equip students with the ability to
manage emotions, set goals, and establish positive relationships. Evidence
shows that SEL programs improve students' emotional well-being,
behaviour, and academic outcomes.

3. Creating a Supportive Classroom Environment: A supportive
environment includes establishing clear expectations, promoting inclusivity,
and offering opportunities for peer collaboration. Teachers can create such
environments by setting routines, recognizing and celebrating diversity, and
using praise and constructive feedback to boost students' confidence. A
supportive atmosphere reduces anxiety and promotes emotional stability.

c) Behavioural Intervention Approach: Positive Behavioural Interventions
and Supports (PBIS) (10 marks)

PBIS is a proactive approach to managing challenging behaviours by promoting
positive behaviour. This intervention framework is based on teaching students
expected behaviours and reinforcing them consistently through rewards and
recognition.
