Pre-orientation: includes thinking and assessment BEFORE

meeting/interacting with client. Doesn't involve the client, its before you

meet the client. You find out objective information on the client. Look on

charts, data. Helps you know how to approach the client (teenager vs old

person, 5 y/o vs 85 y/o)

Orientation: Invest time in intro, role, purpose, client name preference. Once

you go in and meet the client. Introductions take place here: introduce

yourself, ask the client what they would like to be called.

Working phase: collaboration, therapeutic communication, empowerment,

goals, strategies. The nurse and the client collaborate together to meet the

clients health needs.

Termination phase: End of shift, transfer, discharge. Summarize care

requirements, plan and goals, progress. Termination can be tough.
