When is RH immunoglobulin given?
Given at 28 weeks gestation, after an invasive procedure, traumatic event, and within
72 hours post delivery

A mom with O negative blood received RH immunoglobulin at 28 weeks after an
amniocentesis and a MVA. She delivered an infant that also has O negative blood.
Rhogam is not indicated post delivery
Given for induction, augmentation, and hemorrhage
Oxytocin (Pitocin)
Causes cramping, given for hemorrhage, must be withheld for a B/P of 140/90 or
greater, constricts blood vessels and contracts uterus
Methylergonovine
Erickson surmised that if you attend to a crying baby's needs in a timely manner as
opposed to letting the infant to cry it out. The infant will develop this or that.

Ballard
Performing a Ballard gestational assessment the nurse will find some of the following
attributes of a premature or early baby
Soft ears with slow recoil (fold over like a pancake), superficial peeling skin, large
amount of Bernie and Lanugo, one crease or only 2/3 area creased on feet, small
stipples nipple buds (1-2 cm), undescended testicles and few rugs or equally
prominent female genitalia
