, Proposed Change: Enhancing Community Health in Jordan City
To respond to the questions regarding environmental quality and SDHI in Jordan City, a
specific intervention plan is suggested. The city has numerous problems which include air and
water pollution, diseases and illnesses due to bad healthcare, poor shelter, and poor economic
stability which affects residents’ health.
Environmental Quality Improvement: The proposed plan is aimed at more severe
standards of emissions for industries and vehicles to lessen air pollution that is still among the
leading causes of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Also, increasing the treatment and
monitoring of water sources will reduce contamination by agriculture produce thus protecting
residents from water borne diseases and inadequate supply of clean water for domestic use.
Climate change adaptation strategies should be formulated and implemented to prevent the
adverse effects of climate change in causing extreme weather occurrences and vector borne
diseases (National Institute of Health, n.d).
Enhancing Social Determinants of Health: Addressing inequities in this aspect is done by
increasing the availability of telemedicine services and community health centres. This plan is
focused on trying to address some of the gaps observed in primary and specialty care with an
emphasis on providing better access to mental health services, which is a need that has been
highlighted in the community. Supporting affordable housing projects and developing and
rehabilitating urban infrastructure are going to lead to better living conditions, less density, and
increased access to parks and open spaces, walking and cycling facilities. Through strategic
employment and training initiatives, addressing employment and income insecurity, economic
stability will also be provided to other residents of the province (Snyder et al., 2020).
