Responsibility for Reporting Hazards:
Employees:
Immediate Reporting: Employees are responsible for reporting any hazards they
encounter while performing their duties. This includes unsafe conditions, defective
equipment, or any other issues that could pose a risk to their safety or health.
Duty to Report: It is a fundamental part of their role to ensure that potential dangers
are communicated to their supervisors or safety officers so that corrective measures
can be taken.
Supervisors and Managers:
Oversight and Action: Supervisors and managers are responsible for ensuring that
employees are aware of the reporting procedures and are encouraged to report
hazards. They must also investigate reported hazards and take appropriate
corrective actions.
Training: They should provide training and resources to help employees identify and
report hazards effectively.
Safety Officers/Health and Safety Committees:
System Monitoring: Safety officers or health and safety committees are responsible
for monitoring hazard reports, ensuring that they are addressed, and maintaining a
safe working environment.
Procedures and Policies: They develop and implement hazard reporting procedures
and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Employers:
Legal Obligations: Employers have a legal obligation to provide a safe working
environment. They must establish a system for hazard reporting and ensure that it is
effectively communicated to all employees.
Compliance and Enforcement: Employers are also responsible for complying with
relevant health and safety legislation and enforcing the reporting and resolution of
hazards.
