Education and Schooling
Based on the chapter one notes, schooling and education serve a central role in our
society. First, schooling aids prepare learners for the real world outside the classroom
environment. Through schooling, learners learn about their world and prepare to face the world
since their teachers have equipped them with relevant skills and knowledge that helps them
handle life issues with confidence. In the classroom set-up, learners gain different approaches to
the world. Hence when they come out of school, they are already prepared for what they will
encounter in different fields. Additionally, education and schooling direct learners in questing
what they want to become, the types of individuals.
Second, schooling serves as an equalizing agent in our societies. For example, education
enables learners from low social-economic backgrounds and minorities to attain knowledge,
skills, competencies, and attitudes which are employable, thus placing them in the same class as
learners from wealthy families. In doing so, schooling promotes social mobility by giving
learners skills for the workplace. It also fuels economic growth and development when serving
as an equalizer of cognitive skills—education and schooling help eliminate economic inequality
here in the USA. Thus, closing the gap between poor and rich individuals, which has grown
enormous. Moreover, in doing so, it helps learners to attain also their personal success.
Lastly, both schooling and education play a central role in society by helping learners
define valuable asserts found in their culture. It also guides learners towards attaining critical
consciousness while ensuring that they know their roles in ensuring democracy and improving
liberty.
