Role of drama ed
• Creates greater awareness of & skill in specific art form.
• Uses dramatic method & process to develop learner holistically.
o Process based act.
▪ Concerned w/ what learner experiences during lesson.
▪ I.P. learners want to improve on improvisation.
▪ Occasionally allow learners to repeat improvisation attempt.
▪ Desire to “show” improvisations will emerge.
▪ But learner shifts from inner focus to outer manifestation.
▪ Not good at being an audience; become restless.
▪ Occasionally allow learners to show work to each other.
▪ S.P. function more constructively & critically as an audience.
▪ Thus, frequency of end-product-presentations can be increased.
o Product based act.
▪ Focus shifts from process-based act to product-based outcomes.
▪ E.g. individual presentations & group projects.
▪ Outcomes change during dif. stages of development.
▪ Characteristic: development of social awareness.
▪ Outcomes based on development of socialisation.

• Communication skills
• Numeracy skills
• Information skills
• Problem solving skills
• Self-management & competitive skills
• Social & cooperative skills
• Work & study skills
Dramatic play as basis for improvisation
• Main focus: dramatic play in form of improvised class act.
• Humans learn through play.
• Imaginative & social play teach valuable lessons.
• Daydreaming helps to formulate solutions.
• Imaginative play stimulates creative thought.
