ARMY SIFT EXAM/75 QUESTIONS WITH
ACCURATE ANSWERS
Law of Inertia - -an object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion
will remain in motion at a constant velocity. Unless acted upon by an
unbalanced force.

-Sliding or kinetic friction - -One object slides along the surface of another
object

-Fluid friction - -resistance on an object when it is moved through air, gas,
or a fluid. Ex. fish through water.

-Rolling friction - -friction that occurs when an object rolls over a surface.
Ex. when a bowling ball rolls down and alley.

-Static friction - -Friction that acts on objects that are not moving. Ex Tash
can initially stays in place due to static friction when an attempt is made to
move it.

-Newton's Second Law - -Force equals mass times acceleration. A body is
acted upon by a constant force its resulting acceleration is inversely
proportional to the mass and directly proportional to the applied force.

-Newton's Third Law - -For every action there is an equal and opposite
reaction

-Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation - -Every object in the universe
attracts every other object
The force is directly proportional and their masses are inversely proportional
to the square of the distance between them.
Ex. if the distance is increased by 4 the force decreases by a factor of 16
(squared)

-Bernoulli's Principle - -the rule that a stream of fast moving fluid exerts less
pressure than the surrounding fluid

-Fluid Pressure according to Bernoulli principle - -Fluids moving at a point in
a horizontal pipe at a higher speed have lower pressure than fluids moving at
a point at a slower speed.

-Four forces of flight - -lift, weight, thrust, and drag

-Weight - -The force of gravity pushing the aircraft down

, -Lift - -the upward force required to lift the aircraft

-Thrust - -The force applied in order to move the aircraft forward

-Drag - -the force that slows the aircraft down in preparation for landing

-Aircraft weight and balance - -must be calculated during preflight

-Empty Weight Center of Gravity (EWCG) - -provided by the aircraft
manufacture along with a weight limit.

-Manufacturer's Empty Weight (MEW) - -Total weight of the aircraft as it was
built.

-Operating Empty Weight (OEW) - -MEW plus the weight of the crew, fluids,
unusable fuel, and the equipment required for flight.

-All-Up Weight (AUW) or Aircraft Gross Weight (AGW) - -Is the aircraft
weight at any given moment during flight. the AUW / AGW can decrease at
any point during flight.

-Maximum Landing Weight (MLW) - -Aircraft's weight limit for landing,
exceeding the weight increases stress on landing gear

-Maximum Zero Fuel Weight (MZFW) - -permissible weight of an aircraft
with its contents and includes usable fuel. * Total MZFW does not include
usable fuel.

-Maximum Takeoff Weight (MTOW) - -aircrafts weight limit for takeoff

-Maximum Ramp Weight (MRW) - -The weight limit for an aircraft to taxi or
be towed on the ground.

-Flight Envelope - -Encompasses the limits of speed, altitude, and angle of
attack required by any aircraft to maintain a stable flight.

-Angle of Attack (AOA) - -The angle between the direction of airflow against
the wing and the chord

-Chord - -an imaginary reference line that extends from the leading edge to
the trailing edge of the wing

-Downwash - -The direction of air downward produces lift
Ex. helicopter hovering over water causing outward ripples
