HBSE Chapter One
Basic Steps in the Social Work Process - ANS-1. engagement
2. assessment
3. planning
4. intervention
5. evaluation
6. termination
Termination - ANS-starts when service starts; based on evaluation; check out accomplishment;
plan for future
Systems Theory - ANS-system, boundaries, subsystem, homeostasis, role, relationship, input,
output, feedback (positive & negative), interface, differentiation, entropy, negative entropy,
equifinality
System - ANS-set of elements that helps function as a whole
Boundaries - ANS-reoccurring patterns of behavior that characterize relationship in system
Subsystem - ANS-secondary or subordinate system
Homeostasis - ANS-system to remain stable, constant state of balance
Role - ANS-pattern of behavior expected of an individual in social relationship
Relationship - ANS-mutual emotional exchange; dynamic interaction; connection between two
or more people in a system
Input - ANS-energy, information, or communication flow received from systems
Output - ANS-what happens to input after it has been processed
Positive Feedback - ANS-input reinforces output
Negative Feedback - ANS-need to change something about the output
Interface - ANS-point where two systems interact or communicate
Differentiation - ANS-system's tendency to move from simple to complex
Entropy - ANS-tendency of a system to progress toward disorganization, depletion, and death
