Research Type
I will be conducting an action research study on the impact that a
professional development program has on teachers’ ability to teach social-
emotional learning through the arts. I will develop a professional development
program that will be implemented for an initial 2-hour session followed by a 45-
minute session each week for a total of 6 weeks (a total of 6 ½ hours of
professional development).
Research Topic
The topic of how teachers can teach social-emotional learning through the
arts impacts student’s classroom self-regulation skills for emotional and behavior
management purposes aligns with the field of curriculum and instruction. It is our
job as teachers to teach the curriculum created or provided to help students in
our class reach goals as defined in the standards of education. It is our job as
teachers to provide differentiated instruction for all students to help them reach
their individual and class goals towards the standards of education. When
teachers struggle with students regulating their own emotions and behaviors,
disruptions happen in the delivery of curriculum and instruction. The information
obtained from my research will aide me in developing an effective professional
development program designed for teachers to plan for built-in emotional
