Christian Beliefs
The Trinity:
Trinity and the oneness of God:
● Christians believe there is one God who is also three persons: Father, Son and
Holy Spirit
● Each person is fully God yet distinct and separate

Trinity in worship and belief today:
● The Father is the all powerful creator who cares for everything he creates so
Christians pray to the Father in the knowledge he cares for them and will answer
their prayer
● The Son became a human and came into the world to teach people how to live
good and loving lives so Christians follow the example set by Jesus in their lives
● The Son died to redeem the sins of humanity so worship is often happy as
Christians express their thanks to Jesus for his sacrifice
● The Holy Spirit lives in peoples’ hearts giving them strength and guidance so
Christians believe the Holy Spirit helps them to praise and worship God
● The Trinity is a loving relationship where three persons coexist in a perfect unity
this love of the Trinity inspires Christians to show love towards them

SOAs:
● We believe in the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven - Nicene Creed
● We believe in Jesus Christ, the only son of God - Nicene Creed
● We believe in the Holy Spirit, the giver of life - Nicene Creed

,Creation:
Biblical account of creation in Genesis 1 of the Earth:
● Day 1- heavens, earith, light and dark
● Day 2- water and sky
● Day 3- land and plants
● Day 4- sun, moon and stars
● Day 5- fish and birds
● Day 6- land animals and humans

Biblical account of creation in Genesis 2 of humans:
● Day 1- God creates a man from the dust of the ground
● Day 2- God places the man in the garden of eden to take care of it
● Day 3- God commands the man not to eat from the tree of knowledge
● Day 4- God takes a rib from the man and uses it to create a woman
● Day 5- the woman and man eat fruit from the tree of knowledge
● Day 6- God banished them both from the garden of eden

Different understandings of the biblical account of creation:
● Metaphorical view- many Christians believe the creation account is a metaphor,
they see it as a story that helps people understand that God is the creator of all
● Literal view- creationists believe the creation account is true because the Bible
is the sacred word of God

Importance of creation for Christians today:
● Humans are special because they are made in the image of God, allowing them
to have a personal and loving relationship with God
● God gave humans stewardship meaning they must treat animals kindly, help
reduce pollution, look after the environment and share with the poor

SOAs:
● Through him all things were made - Bible, John
● And God said let there be light and there was light - Bible, Genesis

Incarnation:

,Incarnation in the Bible:
● Bible teaches us that God became a human being to live among people, teach
people what God is like and help people to restore their relationship with God

Importance of the incarnation for Christians:
● Jesus came into the world to restore the relationship between humanity and God
allowing Christians to have a relationship with God
● By experiencing what it is like to be human, God showed he could understand
and identify with mankind
● The incarnation shows that God loves the world and everyone in it

SOAs:
● The word became flesh and made his dwelling - Bible

The last days of Jesus’ life:
The Last Supper:
● Last meal that Jesus and his disciples had before his death

, ● After the meal Jesus explained to all his disciples what he knew was going to
happen showing everyone his teachings were true
● Jesus’ death on the cross was proof of his humanity
● Jesus’ death was a sacrifice for humanity

Jesus’ resurrection:
● After 3 days of Jesus’ death some women realised his body was missing and
then two angels appeared and said he is not here
● This proves that his teachings were true
● Jesus’ resurrection proves that if Christians have faith they will be reunited with
him in heaven

Jesus’ ascension:
● Jesus spent time teaching his disciples after he rose from the dead that he would
send the Holy Spirit into the world to help them spread the word of God

SOAs:
● Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, he has risen -
Bible, Luke

Salvation:
Salvation and atonement:
● Salvation means being saved from sin and its consequences
● Christians believe that God sent Jesus to bring salvation to humanity
