Summary Microbiology
Microbilology Chapter 7 Shigella- A common illness and day care and developing countries, where water supplies are contaminated. Traveler’s diarrhea. Organic molecules have potential energy, bonds between Atoms and molecule have potential energy. We usually get our energy from plants, either directly or indirectly Entropy- disorder or randomness. Less order in the universe Energy - to build something complex requires spending energy. Taking a molecule and organizing it takes energy.(Son, plants, bacteria, organic molecules and animals) Energy for life Phototrophy- Biomechanical reaction, Captures energy from light Chemotrophy - use Chemical energy (Organic molecules-lipid sugar) Fungal, animals, ameba, and pertista Autotrophs-Are capable of forming all their own organic molecules(Electron donor ) from CO2 Plus minerals Organotrophy- metabolism in which the food molecules are organic(Most are also heterotrophs) Lithotrophy-Metabolism in which food molecules are Inorganic. Litrophy Donates inorganic electrons To the 1st oxidoeductase of the ETS (Inorganic metals, iron, ammonium, hydrogen) Carbon dioxide fixation stash C02 is fixed by lithotrphs from oxidation of minerals Aerobically- Require oxygen as an Electron receptor Most organisms cannot grow anaerobically. (-) Delta G- Spontaneous reaction doesn't mean it happens instantly. (+) Delta G-Does not happen spontaneously Activation energy - Enzyme that can Lower the activation requirement and will increase the rate of the reaction and make sure the reaction occurs Large Activation= hard to take place Small Activation= easier to take pleas
