1. Osuagwu identifies four factors which he argues characterize Africanity in
African Philosophy. Discuss these four factors identified by Osuagwu and m
argue whether these factors are unique to African Philosophy when
compared to other philosophies. [50 marks]

In his exploration of the Africanity of African philosophy, Ndubuisi Osuagwu
identifies four factors that he argues characterise this philosophy. These factors
are:

1. Ethno-African: This factor identifies an African author or authors by origin
or nature, by birth, ancestry, tribe, physiology, colour, and culture.

2. Geo-temporal African: This factor qualifies the African space and time
within which African philosophy is typically occurring.

3. Lego-African: This factor qualifies an expatriate author or issue which
becomes African by virtue of civil, ecclesiastical, or academic law which
empowers or mandates him or it.

4. Techno-African: This factor identifies an expatriate African who becomes
an African philosopher by interest or preoccupation, enterprise, research,
literature, doctrine undertaken or produced.

These factors, according to Osuagwu, are what make a philosophy African. They
are the criteria that distinguish African philosophy from other philosophies.
However, the question arises: Are these factors unique to African philosophy when
compared to other philosophies?
