Why do you think stories related to crime tend to gure prominently in the media?
The prominence of crime cases is that the public are interested in crime stories. It may be
because they are so rare that they do dominate the media, perhaps providing a distorted view of
how common crimes are.
a) The parties in the case with the following neutral citation: [1993] UKHL 19.

Use of force in making arrest, etc.
(1)
A person may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances in the prevention of
crime, or in effecting or assisting in the lawful arrest of offenders or suspected offenders or
of persons unlawfully at large.
(2)
Subsection (1) above shall replace the rules of the common law on the question when
force used for a purpose mentioned in the subsection is justified by that purpose.

c) The abstract of the following journal article: C. Ashford, M. Morris and A. Powell
‘Bareback Sex in the Age of Preventative Medication: Rethinking the ‘Harms’ of HIV
Transmission’ (2020) Journal of Criminal Law 84(6): 596-614.
d) The wording of Recommendation 1 of the Hate Crime Legislation in Northern Ireland:
Independent Review (2020).
A hate crime may be de ined as a criminal act perpetrated against individuals or communities
with protected characteristics based on the perpetrator’s hostility, bias, prejudice, bigotry or
