QUESTION 1 1.1 Study the pictures below and answer the question that follows. Picture A Picture B LSP1501/6/2023 5 Compare the two images above. Distinguish between the two dimensions observed in the images by clearly indicating which one is which and by explaining each. (4) 1.2 Drawing from your knowledge of Vygotsky’s theory, explain your role as a teacher when teaching Grade R learners how to create two-dimensional forms of art. Support your answer with appropriate examples. (6) 1.3 Developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) is a way of teaching that meets young children where they are, which means that teachers must get to know their learners well and enable them to reach goals that are both challenging and achievable. Demonstrate your understanding of the implications of DAP by relating it to an activity of your choice. Ensure that you include the learners’ age and grade in your discussion. (10) Grade: Activity of your choice: Discussion: 6 1.4 Choose TWO (2) of the skills listed below and discuss how art can be used to facilitate the development of those skills. (10) • fine motor skills • cognitive skills • mathematical skills • language skills • • Question 2 2.1 Study the picture below and answer the question that follows. LSP1501/6/2023 7 Demonstrate your knowledge of the principles of design by identifying and describing the principles that were applied in this picture. (12) 2.2 On page 98 in your study guide, the principles of design are well outlined. Examine how the two principles below can be taught in a Foundation Phase classroom. Use practical examples to show your understanding. • Rhythm (4) 8 • Variety (4) 2.3 Read the scenario below and answer the questions that follow. Holistic development is a concept that sees each child as a whole person: physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially, culturally, morally and spiritually. The stages of development in each of these areas are used to assess where a particular child is, compared to the general norm. Illustrate with examples how art can be used to enhance the following aspects of child development: (10) • Emotional development (5) • Social development (5) 2.4 Mandy and Aneliswa are in Grade 3. Their parents wrote a letter to the principal complaining that their children always bring paintings, drawings, boxes and construction materials home. In the letter, the parents voiced their concern that their children were not learning the relevant curriculum, as they were only doing art projects. The principal then asked you to respond to the parents and explain how young learners benefit from visual art. Based on this scenario, prepare a short presentation which you could use to show parents how art is integrated into other subjects. Prepare your Power Point slides and attached the images to this assignment showing either 3 or 6 slides per page. (7) LSP1501/6/2023 9 Question 3 3.1 Birgili (2015) states that “art offers learners a break from information overload while equally and alternatively continuing to develop the same set of skills required by children to be successful interpreters of the world, enabling them to deal with challenges and problems both critically and analytically”. Generate some ideas on what you could do as a teacher to stimulate the critical thinking of your learners through art. (10) 3.2 Children in a pre-schematic stage (3 to 4 years) of artistic development usually begin to see connections between the shapes that they draw and the physical world around them. Circles and lines may be described as people or objects that are physically present in the child’s life. It is in this stage that a child first makes the connection to communicate through their drawings. As a Grade R teacher, recommend activities parents can do at home to familiarise the child with drawing and to reach the milestones associated with this stage. (5) 10 Question 4 Study the picture below and answer the question that follows. Different kinds of lines can be observed in the image. Imagine you are teaching a Grade 3 class on the topic “How lines are used to create art”. Design a lesson in which you demonstrate how you would use the picture above to enhance your lesson. Your planning should follow the structure provided below. Introduction 4 marks Developmental stage 6 marks LSP1501/6/2023 11 Assessment 4 marks Conclusion 4 marks TOTAL: 100 MARKS
