a) A dictionary activity (see Unit 2), which could be used for vocabulary
pre-teaching or later vocabulary development.
NAME OF ACTIVITY: Dictionary Quiz.
HOW LONG ACTIVITY WOULD TAKE: 15-20min.
AIMS:
To familiarise students with new vocabulary that they will come across in reading
text.
To use a dictionary to locate words and understand the meaning, form and
pronunciation.
TEACHER'S INSTRUCTIONS:
Hand out Dictionary Quiz activity to each student.
Hand out dictionaries to each student.
Give instructions:
Each student must complete all the questions provided to them, using the
dictionary, individually (NO group work).
Monitor class and provide help where needed.
Provide feedback on activity and go through definitions with whole class.
MATERIALS:
Dictionaries (1 per student).
Dictionary Quiz activity (1 per student).
