Nursing 115: Exam 1 - HIV question n answers
Nursing 115: Exam 1 - HIVPathophysiology of HIV - Attaches to surface of specialized WBCs, CD4 + t-lymphocytes - Membrane of virus and cell fuse and HIV particles release its antibodies into the cell (CCR5cxcr4 Co-Receptor, and CD4 co-receptor) - Replicates itself, must insert itself into the DNA - RNA, Reverse transcriptase converts HIV RNA into DNA. Now its compatible with host cell DNA - Into the nucleus of host cell: Uses enzyme HIV integrase to get into the CD4 cells nucleus. - Integration/transcription happen - The new virus proteins are made in one single long strand and must be cut to active shorter ones: Enzynme HIV protease accomplishes this during translation/proteins modification. - CD4+T cell now becomes HIV factor, and their counts will fall as they die. - Pt dies of infection or cancer. Stages of HIV acute infection, clinical latency, AIDS Stage 1: test positive Stage 2: CD4 count is ok, no outward symptoms Stage 3: cd4 drop below 400 Stage 4: AIDS, CD4 below 200
