Eligibility is verified with the program director new graduate membership - AHIMA student members only, after graduation from an AHIMA accredited HIT, HIA, approved coding, or master's program, AHIMA student members may join as a new graduate and is limited for one year emeritus (senior) - in recognition of service to the profession, current AHIMA members aged 65 years and older are eligible for this membership type types of AHIMA memberships - active student new graduate emeritus (senior) five types of activities not accepted for CE credit - responsibilities fall within job description published material developed as part of employment serving in a volunteer role instructing or teaching a class summarizing articles, audiotapes or video recertification guide for continuing education requirements - CEUs must be earned within your recertification cycle and must be relevant to the HIM field as presented in the HIM domains to be eligible for CE credits clock hour requirements for accredited practitioner - calculation CEU is based upon clock hours. One (1) CEU is given for each 60 minutes of attendance or participation that is fixed in length. RHIT = 20 CEU = 20 hours credentials - RHIA (registered health informaion administrator) (30 CEUs) RHIT (registered health information technologist) (20 CEUs) CHDA (certified health data analyst (30 CEUs) CHPS (certified in healthcare privacy and security) (30 CEUs) CCA (certified coding associate) (20 CEUs, annual coding self reviews) CCS (certified coding specialist) (20 CEUs, annual coding self reviews) CCS-P (certified coding specialist physician based) (20 CEUs, annual coding self reviews) CE cycle begins for recently accredited candidates - January 1, and ends on December 31, of the following year method of reporting CE activities - to recertify you can report your CEWs and pay the recertification fee online at AHIMA.ORG/certification or by mail five types of activities accepted for CE credit - participation in educational programs on topics relevant to HIM participation in formal programs of study publication and presentation of material relevant to HIM independent study item writing code of ethics - "the standards of conduct which indicate how we should act or decide based on duties and principles derived from core values" Guides the practice of people who choose a givenprofession and sets forth the values and principles defined by the profession as acceptable behavior within a practice setting non ethical - assigning codes without physician documentation (ethical or non ethical) non ethical - coding when documentation does not justify the procedures that have been billed (ethical or non ethical) non ethical - violating the privacy of individuals (ethical or non ethical) non ethical - allowing inapproprate access to genetic, adoption, or behavioral health information (ethical or non ethical) non ethical - hiding or ignoring review outcomes, such as performance data (ethical or non ethical) non ethical - engaging in negligent coding practices (ethical or non ethical) non ethical - allowing patterns of retrospective documentation ot avoid suspension or increase reimbursement (ethical or non ethical) ethical - advocate, uphold and defend the individual's right to privacy and the doctrine of confidentiality in the use and disclosure of information (ethical or non ethical) ethical - put service and the health and welfare of persons before self interest and conduct themselves in the practice of the profession so as to bring honor to themselves, their peers and to the health information management profession (ethical or non ethical) ethical - preserve, protect and secure personal health information in any form or medium and holding the highest regard the contents of the records and other information of a confidential nature, taking into account the applicable statues and regulations (ethical or non ethical) ethical - refuse to participate in or conceal unethical practices or procedures (ethical or non ethical)
