Understand and explain the difference between substantive and adjectival
laws
Understand and identify the essential elements of criminal procedure,
criminal court jurisdictions, and the relationship to the criminal justice
system
Understand the need for crime control and its basis in relation to Common-
Law and the Constitution.
Analyse and critically evaluate sources of Criminal Procedure and certain
remedies

SCOPE OF CRIM PROC
It regulates:
Powers and duties of Criminal courts;
Powers and duties of Prosecuting authority;
Powers and duties of Police (investigating crimes);
Rights of accused persons, suspects and those arrested;
Pre-trial procedures; Bail; Charge sheets/Indictments; Pleading; Criminal
trials; Verdicts; Sentencing; Post-trial remedies (appeal/reviews) &
Executive actions (Ministerial/Presidential pardons);
Rights and duties for both the prosecution and defense;
Protect rights of victims.

Crime exists in most societies and every country has rules; mechanisms and
principles to:
Detect Prevent Control
Criminal Procedure:
Puts criminal law into practice;
Must provide solutions that allocate scarce resources efficiently;
Must help people in a way that is fair and reliable;
MUST be in line with the Constitution (Bill of Rights);
